On February 26, 2025, Contracts for Construction/Reconstruction were signed for seven out of nine residential buildings for which funds were secured by the Government of the Republic of Srpska, through the Republic Secretariat for Displaced Persons and Migration.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Berkovići, Bojan Samardžić, made the following statement:

"Today, we signed contracts for the construction/reconstruction of seven out of nine residential buildings in Berkovići, for which funds were secured by the Government of the Republic of Srpska, through the Republic Secretariat for Migration and Displaced Persons.
We witnessed an important moment for Berkovići and our fellow citizens, whose homes were damaged in the earthquake. The signing of these contracts marks the beginning of the restoration and the return of a sense of security and stability to the people who have waited too long for this day.

I would like to thank the competent institutions for recognizing the need to help Berkovići. Every support to our municipality is valuable, and I am confident that this project will bring tangible results to our people.
Of course, we would all have preferred this help to arrive sooner, as these people have spent too much time waiting (almost three years since the devastating earthquake). Instead of looking back, we will look forward – towards the construction sites, towards new homes, and towards a renewed life in Berkovići. It is up to the authorities to ensure that such situations are resolved more quickly and efficiently in the future, because people deserve security and care without delay.
We also hope that the contracts for the remaining two buildings will be signed soon.
We thank everyone who contributed to this project, and may the beginning of the works be a symbol of the restoration not only of homes but also of trust that together we can build a better Berkovići."
