About the Healthcare Center
The "Dr. Milenko Muratović" healthcare center in Berkovići has only fifteen employees, yet the doctors and other medical staff manage to reach all patients, even those in the most remote villages of the municipality of Berkovići. Two doctors, one dentist and several members of the medical staff provide family medicine services to patients in places tens of kilometers away from the center of Berkovići. Although the Healthcare Center in Berkovići does not have an organized emergency service, doctors are always ready to intervene in the field. The work is organized in two family medicine clinics, where 2,700 registered primary health care users receive healthcare services.
In March 2010, the Government of Japan awarded the Berkovići Healthcare Center a grant of about 123,000 KM for the implementation of the Medical Equipment Improvement Project in this healthcare facility. Basic medical equipment such as an X-ray device, an X-ray processor, a dental chair with a compressor, a dental X-ray machine with a processor and a defibrillator were purchased with the donation.
As part of the GED project, the building of the PHI Healthcare Center "Dr Milenko Muratović" Berkovići building was reconstructed. As part of the project activities, a thermal facade was installed and the joinery was replaced. The value of the works was 99,500 KM. Also, through a project financed from the World Bank funds through the PIU BEER RS Project Implementation Unit, the heating system was replaced at the facility of the PHI Healthcare Center "Dr. Milenko Muratović" Berkovići. By installing heat pumps (technologically perfected system, adapted to the use of renewable energy sources), heating costs were significantly reduced (up to 75%). The unique technology enables the aforementioned system to be used for cooling the building in the summer.
