Today, July 22, a ceremonial session of the Berkovići Municipality Assembly was held in honor of judo player (judoka) Aleksandra Samardžić, who qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris. By a unanimous decision of the Berkovići Municipal Council, Aleksandra was awarded the Charter for the achieved results and promotion of the Municipality of Berkovići.

In accordance with the budgetary possibilities of the Municipality of Berkovići, Aleksandra was awarded a monetary award in the amount of 5,000 KM for the results achieved and qualification at the Olympic Games.

After the Ceremonial Session of MA Berkovići, a cocktail party took place, which was attended by successful judokas who performed for Judo Club Berkovići, as well as current members of the club.

Aleksandra started practicing judo in 2004, when she was less than 7 years old. She took her first judo steps in  the Judo club "Berkovići", under the watchful eye of her father and first coach Jovo Samardžić. During her career, she won over 400 different medals, and some of her most significant successes are:

- 2nd  place at the Youth Olympic Games

- 2nd place at the Junior World Championship

- 2nd place at the European Championship for U23 seniors

- 3rd place at the Grand Slam in Tyumen

- 3rd place at the Grand Slam in Baku

- 3rd place at the Grand Prix in Zagreb

- 3rd place at the Grand Prix in Linz

- In addition to these results, she won another 10 European medals, was the champion of the Balkans 15 times and the champion of Bosnia and Herzegovina about 30 times.

All these successes were crowned by the qualifications at the Olympic Games in Paris in the category up to 70 kilograms, where she will represent the municipality of Berkovići, Republika Srpska and BiH among 24 competitors from all over the world.

The scale of this success can be better understood if it is taken into account that only 5 competitors from all of BiH are going to the Olympic Games this year, only two from Republika Srpska. Apart from Berkovići and Bileća, no other municipality in eastern Herzegovina can boast of having participants in the Olympic Games. Therefore, we can say that what Tijana Bošković is to Bileća, Aleksandra Samardžić is to Berkovići.
